Art, Design, and LGBTQ+ Inclusion | Educator Speaker Series
Join USC-Roski School of Art and Design's Associate Professor Andy Campbell (he/him) and elementary educator Skye Tooley (they/them) to explore LGBTQ+ lives, art, and design through LACMA’s collections of photographs and prints as well as the unique resources of One Institute, community partner to ONE Archives at USC Libraries, the largest collection of LGBTQ+ material in the world.
With Polly Apfelbaum’s 2006 series Flags of Revolt and Defiance, works by Claude Cahun and Weegee, and the digitized poster collections of ONE Archives, we’ll address how symbols such as the rainbow and trans pride flags have come to represent LGBTQ+ community, and how they are emblematic of making and living outside of the lines of societal expectation. At a moment where such content is being actively challenged within national, state, and local political arenas, we’ll discuss strategies for illuminating LGBTQ+ artists’ lives and works with the possibilities of DIY print and iterative media.
This program is presented in collaboration with One Institute, the oldest active LGBTQ+ organization in the country. Through unique K-12 teacher trainings, lesson plans, and youth mentorship programs, One Institute empowers the next generation of teachers and students to bring queer history into classrooms and communities.
The Educator Speaker Series invites K-12 teachers to present on crucial topics in art education that center on criticality and social justice.

Not sure that Zeng Fanzhi's work has an intensity of color that surpasses any artist in history is a hyperbolic statement for sure .An interesting exhibition it may but this marketing is definitely is valued here over scholarship .

This is a great video. And I am very thankful for the effort that the conservator took in showing how to clean that beautiful engraving. One question, however, remains in my view. What would be the best way for drying the sheet? It should probably dry slowly. On what kind of material should it lay for drying, may be linnen? Should it be pressed in that process?
I'd like to know that too. Laying on a horizontal piece of stretched (framed) linen canvas is the way to go, but I've only seen it when the poster is glued to it so I don't know how easily peeled off the linen might be after drying. As for pressing, careful draping and gravity will do most of the work, but I'd probably put an acetate sheet over it and use a roller to make sure any kinks are ironed out. I'm told a standard movie poster will dry in 24-48 hours. You can see in the video that the bottom is wavy but like you say it feels like that's not the "walk away" stage of the process.
